Coast Guard Auxiliary and Martin County Sheriff's Dept. work together to
educate the public.
On Tuesday evening 9/27/16, my wife, Jan, and I attended a presentation
sponsored by the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 59 in Stuart Fl and
presented by the Martin County Sheriff's Dept called ACTIVE SHOOTER/PERSONAL
This program, open to the public, is one of the first of its kind developed
in our area and was well received by the near capacity crowd.
One of the main topics was, in the event of an active shooter, should I RUN,
HIDE OR FIGHT. The presenter also stressed that we should always be aware

The presenter, Trisha Kukuvka, Public Affairs Coordinator, encouraged
questions from the audience who asked things like, "Can I keep a loaded
weapon in my car even if I do not have a concealed carry license", and "Is
it ok to carry pepper spray?" Commander Wise and Officer Wagner from the
Sheriff's Dept. also attended and offered their input from experience which
was very interesting and helpful.
